In May 2004, Thornton Heath's historic Victorian baths were demolished and replaced by a more modern sports and leisure centre. Since 2008 and every year thereafter, the District Centre Manager and Thornton Heath Business Partnership have jointly organised the 'Thornton Heath Festival' on the High Street, closing the busy road to all traffic for the day for the fun filled event to take place.
